Anyone know the answer to this.
Are there any regulations about moving the position of a VIN plate?
I want to add a a head steady to the wife's Honda and the VIN plate is in the way of the obvious mounting point. There's a big lug on the cylinder head which does nothing but looks like it has been a head steady mount on some other installation. All the engine mounting points are rather low on the crankcase so I thought a head steady wouldn't do any harm. The VIN plate is only riveted on and could easily be moved an inch or so.

You may have problems if/when you decide to sell the bike. Anyone seeing a VIN plate that had been moved is likely to be suspicious, unless you can repair/repaint the original holes to a perfect standard.
Anyway, if Honda didn't see the need for a head steady, why bother?

It's not boredom - the Honda has it's back end off waiting for a new shock so the bench is blocked (don't want to put it all back together just to move it) I've done everything else I can think of while I'm waiting so at least it's getting a proper overhaul. New shock is to lower the bike a bit so Rosie's feet can touch the floor properly. There's no way to alter the original shock/mountings without major surgery. I noticed this big lug on the head sat there doing nothing so........
