Actually nothing on the Connie except the dawning realisation that I must time the magneto and get it off the lift quick, because, there has been a sudden flurry of work on the Series 2 Interceptor. The bottom end of the engine and the gearbox and spacer block are all bolted together as a unit and the frame is painted and fitted with swing arm and shocks so no reason not to mate them up! The wheels are built (thanks Neil!) and got nice new Avon Roadriders on so just a few forky bits to do and maybe... I'll sort some pictures later...

Hi Mark, not Connie related but Inter. I had a 1A rebored a new pistons, had the heads done up by our head specialist and it has done probably 1000ks now and it is still a bit smokey and is going through oil. Any thoughts before I pull it down again because I don't expect to find anything visibly wrong.

Norm, couple of thoughts and questions, where did the pistons and rings come from? And was there a rust stain in the bores? These can come through even after a re-bore and cause smoking, although usually not steady smoking but light load smoking if you know what I mean!

Hi Mark,
pistons and rings from Hitchcocks and the bores looked perfect, nothing I would suspect there. I have never had a problem with guides in the heads because Basil always does a perfect job on any head he touches so I can rule that out. Got me a little stumped.

Norm are there any breathing mods not yet tried? Maybe its excess crank case pressure causing problems. May still be getting a little blowby from the rings…

Did i read somewhere about tapping a hole in the rocker area?
Mark look forward to some pictures of progress.. gwilly

Norm, you know what you're doing so all I can suggest is start again and check it all? When do you get smoke, over-run, acceleration? I'm experimenting with oil seals on the guides of mine, also very carefully centralising rockers onto valve tips to minimise side wear on guides, although that won't be the cause of this problem. Apart from that, are you using modern oil? A modern synth oil will slow ring bedding.

Hi Mark, as you say just have to go through it again, but I don't expect to visibly find anything. Just using ordinary oil nothing synthetic. It smokes slightly at idle and when you rev it. Started out the left cylinder smoking, now it is the right side, left seems to have settled down. Might be the rings haven't bedded properly but I would have thought they would have by now

I wonder if they were a little gungho with the honing, if its still got those spiral scratches down the bores which should have gone by now…

think sometimes its overdone and takes ages to wear down smooth and bed in...
