rear shock minimum length

Hi,Does anyone know what the minimum compressed length is on a rear shock absorber for a standard Bullet. I know the length at rest is 300mm.

Hi there GRUSOME ----------- You'll need to be a bit more specific I think...Do you mean}---a)How far can I compress the standard, assembled unit?........b)What is the length of the damper unit when fully compressed ?...........c) What is the length of a fully compressed spring from the rear shocker ?........... You say the "at rest" length is 300mm but with what setting on the pre-load is that ??

preload doesn't alter the at rest length it remains 300mm, just harder or softer but still 300mm. The question is a bit strange, not sure why he would want to know that

the compressed length would be when the spring is coil bound
1: remove spring , compress in press and measure
2: measure distance between turns x No of turns and deduct this from an uncompressed spring measurement

Did someone mention the pre-load word? 
Most twin shock arrangements have about 100mm of travel limited by the rubber stop on the damper rod. If allowed to compress until coil bound it would be a bad design. So if the rubber stop was pushed all the way to the top and then the gap between the rubber stop and the lower damper body was measured that would be your maximun travel. Can't imagine the loading and pothole size it would need to get there though.

Why not remove the spring, compress the shock then measure it? I don't wish to sound offish, but lately there are quite a few strange questions being asked without giving all information as to why its needed. I'm sure its a genuine question, but please be more specific if you want a clear answer.

Perhaps not too strange a question Norm. ... We have the use of a Triumph T100R when in US. The rear units were replaced one time & worked fine with the 70kg owner but with 50kg + 70kg aboard the rear wheel hit the underside of the mudguard on medium bumps. Got the units exchanged for next length up, forget sizes now 'cos the yanks do things in inches.
