OK some say the Electra X is rubbish. So which is the best 500cc Enfield engine with electric start? Thinking of putting one in a Bullet frame specials. Would an Enfield twin fit into a Model G frame? Any thoughts? Graham

No Enfield, Royal or otherwise, needs an electric boot

If you can find a 65 as a donor you might get the 5 speed box as well.

Graham, a twin won't fit in a Model G frame without extensive work around the gearbox area

I need to leap to the Electra-X's defence here. I've had mine from new (07) and apart from a failed HT coil, have had no trouble. It has an S&B filter on an Amal kit, free flow exhaust and one of Mine Host's TCI replacements. Goes quite well, easily keeping up with mates' modern bikes on slowish runs. Took it to IoM this summer and had a blast on the TT circuit. Even the sprag is original and it starts on the button after I ditched the standard (crap) Indian battery and fitted a decent one...
