A bit of a head scratcher

Hi guys. Checking over my bike today I noticed that both main and dipped headlight beam had failed. Pilot light was OK but what seemed a bit odd was the blue main beam warning light was on all the time. Because BOTH headlight elements weren't working I dismissed bulb failure, but took a look at it anyway. Both elements looked fine with nothing rattling about inside the glass. So I checked all the usual stuff - fuses, earth, all the connectors inside the headlight nacelle. Everything in order. So then I took the pilot light connectors and attached them to the High and Low connectors on the headlight bulb and both elements lit up (proving both elements were OK). Then I connected the pilot light earth to the headlight bulb's earth (common) and in turn to the high and low connectors, and low and behold total darkness! Somewhere between bulb's outside earth connector terminal and where it enters the glass dome it had failed. How on earth (pardon the pun) THAT had happened I guess I'll never know. A new bulb from Halfrauds (sorry Mr H) and all was well. That little lot took all afternoon! Just needed to tell y'all.
