Hi all,I have a 53 500 bullet, does anyone know where the solenoid for the starter motor is situated ?Electric start has never worked but i thought that maybe this summer id try and get it going,i think i will renew and check all electrical components first so any help advice or reply would be appreciated.
Merry Christmas,

follow the main battery wire , it will go to the solenoid , then another thick wire will go to the starter motor

Thanks alan,
looks like to renew the sprag clutch involves a fairly big strip down so i thought i would start with the electrics first and hope i might find the problem there.
Cheers chris

Spence, It is hard to give advice on the electric start without having some knowledge of your mecanical experience, it is easy to diagnose if you know what you are doing but not easy if you are stabbing in the dark because there is a number of components that can cause failure. Quickest test is put the bike on the center stand making sure the wheel is clear of the ground, bike in neutral, ignition on and with an insulated piece of wire jump across the terminals on the starter solonoid. I assume you are not talking about an Electra but a cast iron Bullet because your description that is is a 53 500 Bullet was about 50 years before they started fitting electric starts to them. If this is the case the solonoid is in the left toolbox and if by jumping the solonoid you will quickly tell if the starter engages or not. Then come back and ask what to do next

Thanks norm should have made it clear that bike is an 03 500 army bullet.I do have some mechanical experience but im a dumbo at electrics so i will try the method you suggested tomorrow, i will let you know how it goes.
all the best chris.
