Well I hope it is as Ive just shelled out £30 on a litre bottle of the stuff, have some questions though...........1) it comes with a pump spray bottle, but that seems a very wasteful way of applying it, I assume i can put it on with a paint brush ?.............................2) I also have a 5 litre can (a metal can) of wax oil my dad gave me, I reckon it must be at least 30 years old, any one know if its any good ?..................3) What do you use ?

Hi Bertie, the ACF is excellent. You can indeed apply it with a paintbrush. It's ideal if you are laying the bike up. Please be aware many bike cleaners will remove it, Autoglym I use will fetch it straight off. Many treat the bike at the onset of winter and just hose the bike now and then or not at all then do a thorough clean in the spring. That seems to work fine. There are companies that will put the bike in a plastic bag and spray the ACF in to completely cover the bike. The brakes are cleaned after.
I don't know about the Waxoil. Edward

We used Castrol Rustilo where I worked, it puts a wax-like cover on metal which protects from moisture and rust. It was applied from an oil can and an old paint brush.

It's excellent stuff & very clingy. Smother & keep topped up during winter, clean off with brake cleaner in the spring & polish up. Simples!

Worth noting that it also kills corrosion already present. Bonus, or what?

Excellent stuff and it is best applied with a brush. Waxoyl is good as well and even more clingy, also somewhat cheaper. They will both leave a thin film if wiped on with a cloth but for full protection it's best to leave it on thick. Don't know about ACF50 but Waxoyl has really good creep properties so gets it all the little important places.

Yes it is excellent. If you have the equipment, apply it with a spraygun and the ACF50 gets literally EVERYWHERE on the bike. You need to cover your tyres and brakes first, of course! Use an old shower curtain to cover the bike, and raise the curtain just in the area you are spraying. This prevents waste and minimises overspray on to the geraniums or next door's cat or whatever....

ACF50 - first class stuff. Does everything the others do and more. Good enough for US Air Force so should do the job! My only complaint is that the spray doesn't spray as well as it should - even if it's shaken well.

I've never managed to get the stuff to spray properly, either with the little pump spray or a proper pressure sprayer. It always comes out in a stream or coarse drops. Even warming the stuff doesn't help (maybe because of the temperature drop at the outlet?). Yesterday I tried thinning it down with brake cleaner and it seemed to work better. A paintbrush is definitely better for larger and easily accessible surfaces.
