I have just serviced the front brakes on my Enfield 350 and had a new tyre fitted but I can't find the recommended torque for the nuts securing the alluminium spindle caps to forks.Seeing that our hosts sell steel caps I suspect over tightening is common. Not wanting to give it an extra tweek just to be sure and crack a cap does anyone know what the torgue should be.In my mind looking at the size of the nut and stud I feel it could be 12 foot pounds ish. Any help will be appreciated.

The catalogue has the torque settings, just as important is to make sure they are tightened evenly with the gaps the same front and back.

Hi JS--------- not so much over-tightening (though that can occur) but more because the Aluminium CRACKS-- and quite badly in some cases.........You could have saves 10% recently and bought some steel ones, but buy some anyway-- if only for your own peace of mind..

Those caps worry me. If one let while riding......I got some steel ones for piece of mind and lock the hits with a stout cable tie.

Midge has it right, imperative for cap to be evenly tightened with equal gaps back & front. ... I fit new lock washers each time & tighten by feel, never thought to use torque wrench before

Nip tight is all they need, I have not seen them come loose, I have seen them break but there is no way the spindle can come out even if they are broken, just makes you feel a little ill.

I wouldn't risk this caps designs for sleighs. Get the proper ones from Hitchcock's ;-)
