HI,
I have recently bought an Electra X which came with an Amal Concentric carb and exhaust conversion. The bike has not ticked over properly, but has run very well at half and full throttle. Recently it stopped as I was moving the choke from start to run and i have not got it running again. I have stipped the carb, which looks like new and not found fault. I have also tried re fitting the Mikarb which came with it. I am sure this is a carb fault, and due to the type of ignition cannot imagie this is the fault as the timing does not appear adjustable and there is a good spark. Does anyone have any ideas please.
Thanks

If not already done so I would change the spark plug anyway. It may have a good spark outside but may be not under compression. You could also try putting a finger over the plug hole and turn the engine over and smell said finger for petrol to see if it's getting through.

This may be unrelated to your problem, but I have an identical bike set up with Amal and exhaust and couldn't start it early last year. Tried everything (including adjusting the timing) and - long story short - eventually traced the problem to ignition coil, which was firing when it wanted to, or not at all. New coil; problem solved. Apparently not an isolated case… hope this helps. Stephen

Thanks Guys,

I've got a few days off work and will order order a new coil and plug as well as a stay up float and gasket/seal set from Hitchcocks. Ive noticed the float bowl is distorted and will grind this down with some valve paste to make it true. I absolutely love the bike having wanted one for over 20 years, but am beginning to wish I opted for an earlier bike such as an Indian 350 as my skills belong to 1970's. I will post the outcome.

Thanks again!
