would my Woodsman electra EFI benefit from an iridium plug,


if so which one as the catalogue does not mentioned EFI's?

No,not really. Unless you intend to go racing and there is a real risk of the plug electrode melting or if you never intend to look at the plug again. Don't be fooled by the ad-mans pseudo science which is intended to part you and your hard earned cash. On such a low-power and low-tech motor it really won't make one iota of difference, just cost you a whole load more dosh. If you had a modern, highly tuned 200bhp superbike for regular track days then maybe, just maybe, perhaps. For a 20 or 30 horsepower plodder forget it.

Some Bullets are plug eaters and do benefit from an iridium plug merely on cost alone apart from the hassle of changing bad plugs. Others will go for years on the same plug. Our Flash & a Box has had the same plugs for about 7 years now though the electrodes are erodoing a thou or so a year. Might put in the new spares this winter & use the knpwn golden oldies for spares

The only thing you will notice is that it might start easier, it will not improve performance. As Beezabryan says, they will last a lot longer; I had one in my Bullet for over 16000kms and only changed it because it was oiling up and I needed a hotter plug.

Basically I agree with what has been written. If your bike is a bit tricky to start, an Iridium might save you a few kicks (or button presses). There again, you could find out why it is hard to start and fix that. otherwise you will notice no difference. After all, if it fires it fires!

I can't comment on the merits of the iridium in the EFI but after putting one in my Electra X the tickover was far too fast and had to be turned down. Something was therefore working more efficiently.

Bryan, if your bike is eating plugs something is wrong. Fitting an Iridium will just mask the symptom.

They do last longer though.

Plus has anyone seen a fake iridium?? There seems to be a few examples of the cheap NGK ones being cloned and sold in bulk..

at first, my EFI ran unevenly until I did two things,

change the plug to BPR6ES ? IIRC or BP6ES, one of them,

The other thing was changing to 98 octane fuel.



Starts first time, runs smoothly at tickover!



"If it ain't broke..." I'll keep the BPR6ES then!

hi Peter the plug eaters come up here ocasionally. ... our Bullet has been running the same plug the last 3 1/2 years when prior to our Big Adventure NKII it was treated to the second of 2 iridium plugs I got cheap some years back. The one I took out is still in the toolbox as a spare. .. From new our Bullet had a poor Micarb which I did not change until I came across a good one at the right price, the iridium plug did largely mask the problem ie it started better with decent low revs & tickover. ... bugger the niceties if something works, it works
