HHH stamped on timing side

Hi.
I have a brace of Model G 350 engines which both have letters H stamped on both the crankcase and also inside the timing cover. One has engine has HHH and the other has HHHHH. Are these anything to do with the shimming of the timing gears or is there another explanation. I do have a third engine which has no marks, so that confuses me even more.
