Model G forks

Hi. Does anybody know how the alloy fork bottoms come off their steel tubes on the model G forks? They are listed in the parts book online section (1949 350 Bullet) as one part, integral with the tube, but I came across a picture of a pair of these castings on their own that had been listed on ebay some time ago so I assume it can be done.

Yes, they unscrew and folk obviously have to do this to re-chrome when restoring. I've not done it myself (although I have a set of these forks somewhere!) but I have heard that getting the threads to seal properly and not pass oil when rebuilt can be a problem. I would have thought a suitable gasket cement or maybe just a string seal should do it though!

Thanks for that Mark. I just wanted to make sure and yes, I am thinking of re-chroming the tubes. Your comments on sealing are noted also. Cheers.

Forgot to mention that when it comes to stopping oil passing threads there is only one way; PTFE tape for me every time. Thanks again, Spech

PTFE for me too, my wife calls it TTFN tape for some reason! I mentioned string because BSA fork oil seal carriers have a groove machined for it (and it actually works,) and I was wondering if the Enfield forks had something similar?
