Hello "The Vibe" ------ Try telephoning Hitchcocks directly and talk to one of the people there. They have all that information and can tell you what you need to know. Remember it's a Holiday week-end here in the UK so they won't be open until next Tuesday from 9 in the morning.

To my eyes, I reckon it's 0B5, denoting its a 500 Bullet framed machine made in 2000. There should be a letter at the end of the number denoting the month it was made. Hope this helps.

thank you people;

that information allready helped me a lot :)

@ Barry_Q : but what i don't have is a letter at the end. but youre informatione is right !! it's an Bullet 500 cc. the thing i was not sure about is the year of manufacture. but you say 2000.....possible ! ? !

but if this is true will have a problem to get the bike running on gearman streets. any ideas what i can do to fix that problem !

At this time, I think your frame number is 0B5 1024D denoting a 500 Bullet made in March 2000. However, I don't know the code for 1990. It is quite possible that your bike was made in 1990, but without more information (like a picture, etc) it's impossible to be certain. The only people who would know for sure is the Royal Enfield Owners Club. They run a machine dating facility. For £10 you end then a rubbing of your frame and engine numbers, as well as a couple of photos of the bike and they'll send you a Dating Certificate. I've used then to date my 1999 Lightning so I could register it with the DVLA.

Does Germany have tighter restrictions on registering imports?

back again : )

no, i don't think that the germans are tigther. but im afraid to get to an *compliced character* who got the resposibly for the registration of my bike. it's not like in india where you can fix some things with bakshish, or the bakshish is on such a high level i can't reach ; ) anyway : that's not my way.

p.s. possible that the number is OB 5 1024D and not OB 5 10 240 haha....

do you or someone knows : if it's true that i will have some problems with the year of manufacture and the new (a few years old) law in germany (eu also ?!) exhaust emission thing ??

Mr Vibe,

I Take it your in Germany and Not sure about its age??
For the Last two issues in the Gun (The REOC Mag) a German Chap and Member has been on about how touse the GermanTUV,&EU System to get a Trailer Legal for his Bullet, He Offered Free advice etc (His Name is Bernd, If he gets on Here)They are some other German Members too... So if Stuck Join the REOC and give it a go..

Lastly depending on Who or Where you got your Bike From??
(You Mentioned "bakshish") you can get a Bike in INDIA with any number you or the supplier wants on, Hence a number of 1965 500cc bikes doing the Rounds...

Lastly a Picture Please and we will all give you a (Different) Date for Free....

Cheers Craig

I think I've figured out the problem. The Vibe has bought a second hand Enfield and taken it back to Germany. Due to emission regulations, the bike needs to be over a certain age or it can't be Registered. It would appear that a bike under a certain age needs a European Certificate of Conformity for Emission Norms. Even though my 1999 Lightning has a C of C, it's not for the European Union. The Vibe doesn't want to deal with the 'bullsh*t' of getting a 2000 onwards bike Registered as its complicated. Getting an earlier bike Registered is a lot easier. If the bike was made in 1990, then there wouldn't be a problem. I think that sums it up.

Yeahh !! Barry_Q you got it corect : )

qustion : what do you think ?

that my bullet 500 cc manufactured in 2000 in india will fail automatically the exhaust emission check here at the germans tüv ? because it's an indian modell and the engineering is quite simple ? and what other problems can i have to get the bike registreted in gearmany ? (change : tires? light?...)

hmm... or is it better to say to the tüv : i lost the papers, plates etc.

A 2000 manufactured Indian market Enfield can be made to pass the TUV test. However, it will need some work and a number of parts. My 1999 Enfield Lighting was fitted with a PAV, but it was disabled at the factory. Assuming that you still have the PAV fitted and that your Enfield is like my Lightning, you will need the following. 2 new tyres. A new headlamp. A breather box. A pipe that goes from the top of the PAV to the breather box. A new side panel air fiter box. A pipe that goes from the breather box to the side panel air filter box. A resonator box to replace the old airfilter box. If you look at the Parts Books Online for a 2001 500cc Enfield, you will see that parts that you will need.
