Hi, is anybody going to' help me to' find out thr proper way to check and to proced to refill the oli with my electra efi please?...I followed the handbook procedure but afte one week since I changed the oil Im stil looking for the fine leve. i fill it with 1,9 kg and the bloody window told me afte a few miles that the level was to' low, than I added just a very little and again afte some miles the level was ove the max, the I drained roughly .3 kg and the level went down the minimum, so I had to' add again some. In additino with the angine cold as ice the level is nera the minimum and after a copule of minutes of idle angine the leve goes up ove the max.....it is realy frustrating. Im running after it since last week!... Thanks for the cooperation.

Doesn't take much to overfill from a minimum oil level and then you start to blow oil seals. The sight glass is crap for anyone who is unfortunate enough to wear glasses. You just can't see for reflections and it's almost impossible to get the glass view in the correct focal part of specs. I would sooner have a dipstick.

I've found that the only way to accurately check the level is to follow the advice in the Handbook - run the engine from cold for a few minutes then stop the engine with the bike on the centre stand. Wait for a couple of minutes and the level should be below the Max level on the sight glass. If you have been out for a ride the level is likely to be at the top of the sight glass (with the bike on the centre stand) until it the engine has cooled down. Beware - if you use the sidestand the oil will 'disappear' - you can only check the level properly if the bike is on the centre stand after the engine has been running.

What's the problem relying on the oil level with bike on the stand completely cold?
And why not just check the level say 5 to 10 minutes after being out for a run having left the bike on the stand.

Jim,
As a wearer of multifocals and weak knees, you can always use either a mirror or even a digital camera. I prefer the sight glass over the dipstick, where with clean oil I could never be sure what I was seeing.
Start off with 1.5L, give it a couple of minutes to settle, then top up in very small doses.
Cheers
