Fuel tank leaks

If I fill Bertie's tank or go over a bump it leaks petrol from the filler, I have tried different caps and different washers,
the latest being a trimmed down Neoprene offering from Honda, but to no avail, it still leaks
this has ruined the paint on the tank,
I think the problem has always been that the fuel filler rim isn't flat, I guess it's been like it from new.
Does anyone else have this problem, or can I get a tank with a liquid tight filler for this model.
Bertie is 2004 500 classic in standard trim as seen (hopefully) in the picture below.

Mine does the same thing and the foul muck they call petrol these days leaves a nasty yellowish scunge all over the top of the tank. I've got a. C&S style cap and would love a suitable substance for gasket replacement!

Neither of the tanks in the videos are the same as mine, it is disturbing that RE cannot design a tank that dosnt leak, my concern is that if I have a spill I don't want petrol spilling out onto the engine or exhaust, better speak to mr H and ask his advice, better get saving for a new tank.

I have used 1/8 inch nitrile to make new cap gaskets which works reasonably well because it is thicker that the original gaskets. Don't wast your money on a new tank because the flip up caps are worse than the twist ones

------------Oh Look!!..there's BERTIE out and about with his fellow Enfields......And to think he very nearly was (whisper this next word-----) s-o-l-d !!!............ Nice WIDE picture there (LoL!!)....YES, my late Bullet 65 had the same problem, YES it was the rim, YES a quick run over with a BIG FLAT "BASTARD" FILE and a thicker new gasket did the trick !!----------My No1 Bullet is still awaiting the new big-end and No2 ( the Army Despatch Rider conversion) is well under way--Frame re-spray in the Spring and re-build in the Summer...

on both my MT350 and my little ts185 the tanks don't leak , when you look down the neck , the circular section extends into the tank by about 3/8-1/2in , this stops the fuel sloshing , imagine if you made a short length of tube (like a toilet roll centre) and affixed it flush with the top , but extended into the tank this would stop the fuel sloshing up.

Alan i like the idea but wondering if the tank can still breath if the tube goes below the surface of the petrol....?

Needs something agreed.. certainly a flat rim would help..

no the bit that goes in the tank does not actually touch the fuel
