Hy All
Can anyone throw any light on my 2007 model electra X as I believe it came out of the factory fitted with a delorto carb as standard, It also has a shorter silencer and the PAV blanking plug fitted.
I spoke to Hitchcocks (out hosts) about this and the guy I spoke to said there were some electras that were produced with the delorto carb mod,
Can anyone throw any light on this ie better performance etc,The bike was originally supplied by D T Mackenzie of Darlington and has now coverd 700 miles from new any info would be great.
Look forward to hearing from you
regards johno

This sounds like the Highway kit. This was supplied by Watsonian as an option or as a separate kit.

Yes, its the Watsonian Highway Kit. Also came with a cut down airbox and washable K&.N performance filter.
Was an option on New bikes or a retrofit kit.
Claimed to give an extra 6 bhp, making a total of 29 or 30. Our hosts exhaust header will give another 2 or so bhp.
The kit works exceptionally well and the carb is very reliable and tunable.

Hi Johno,
the factory fitment would have been an Indian copy of a Mikuni 29mm CV carb. The Dell'Orto option was indeed devised by Watsonian-Squire, the UK importers for Royal Enfield until quite recently. According to the Watsonian-Squire blurb their Highway Kit was supposed to boost the Electra-X performance to 32(?)BHP. Apart from the shorter UK made silencer and fancy Italian carb it also had a revised air filter with a fatter K&N element and a big hole in the internal cover for the airbox for better breathing. I had one fitted to my new Electra-X by the dealer - as an "official" modification kit by the importers it didn't invalidate the warranty.
Despite it being quite a sporty carb, the Dell'Orto PHF32 was jetted quite lean to suit the lean burn factory exhaust pipe. If you want to fit a less restictive exhaust at some stage (several options available from our hosts) you might want to consider re-jetting. Our hosts went down the Amal carb route for tuning the Electra-X, but all the spares you need for your carb can be had from Dell'Orto UK,
