Air filter

Hi everyone. I have a lovely 2009 Electra EFI which I am very pleased with. Whilst checking the air filter I noticed that this car type filter was totally enclosed in a plastic casing! What I was wondering about is how does sufficient air get to the engine as I could not find any way which it could enter the air filter assembly?

If you remove the air filter, you will see a large opening at the rear of where the filter sits. Air is drawn in through this opening into the interior, or the anulus of the filter.
Air is then drawn through the paper element, is cleaned on its way, via a rubber tube, to the fuel injector,where it is mixed with fuel on its way to the cylinder.
