mudguard carrier stud

Hi
I am trying to fit our hosts single saddle for an electra X. One of the supports attaches to the stud 3/8 " x 2 3/4 " rear mudguard carrier stud ( code 146146 0n Page 41 rear Mudguard 2005 Electra X.). I need to take this out so that I can clean and slid it back in so that there is enough thread on the outside to accommodate both the support bracket and the nut.
Unfortunately the studs ( on both sides of the bike) are immovable. I have souked the area in WD40 overnight, but they still won't slide out.
Any suggestions? I was thinking of unfastening the mudguard and shock absorber bolts and seeing if I can actally remove the carrier, which I think should pull out with the studs still in place, but any ideas before I try this would be welcome.
Thanks
Clive

Clive, I'm not sure which studs you are talking about but from memory there is 2 studs on the rear carrier I couldn't remove I ended up removing the rear carrier and left them in because even with the carrier removed I was unable to remove them. I made up new bolts to fit the Bullet rear mudguard carriers. I assume these are the studs you are talking about

Hi Norm

Those are indeed the studs in question. After sending them pictures yesterday our hosts phoned me back and they have been very helpful. If only evey business was as customer centered life would be easier.
Anyway, looks like I shall be following your footsteps, removing the carrier, and see if I have a bit more luck than you did,.....I'll let you know........it may take some time !.
thanks for the reply.

Thanks to the help of a frind of mine I managed to remove both studs undamaged. I thought they were seized in the mudguard carrier, and hadn't realised they are actually threaded into the carrier. So, with the aid of 2 nuts on one end of stud we were able to put the carrier in a vice and simply unscrew the stud. It did take a bit of effort, but after the initial half turn they came out quite easily.
Just a note in case it helps anyone else wanting to fit the single saddle.

Thanks Clive, I thought that was probably the situation but at the time it was easier for me to knock up a couple new studs. I will know for next time
