Providing you retain the O2 sensor in the header pipe does anybody know if you can fit a shortie muffler without causing problems

Well that is how you do it, no point in asking the question just once lol

On my 2010 Electra (G5) I've used the Watsonian Goldstar, and the Hitchcocks classic efi silencer. Both work fine, with a slight but noticeable performance boost, but are much noisier than the stock silencer. They backfired a little at first, but the ECU does adjust quite soon. I've gone back to the Goldstar, upswept, because I like the look of it and it has a glorious growl on deceleration from high rpm. It is a different internal design to the Hitchcocks Goldie, which I haven't heard.
I also tried the cheap Indian Electra silencer, which needs a bit of minor bodgery to fit, but backfired excessively. It has a nice deep thump, and only costs thirty odd quid. A couple of folks on the U.S. forum have had no problems with it.
Others have tried various Harley pipes, and the widely available generic reverse cone silencer, with varying degrees of success.
Plenty of info on the EFI bikes on the U.S. forum

Hi Bill,
was the Electra silencer a straight through one or did it have some baffles,I can understand a straight through could cause problems with gasses passing the sensor too quickly

Hi Norm,
The Indian Electra silencer has some sort of baffle in it - you can't look straight through it. There seem to be two versions - someone on the U.S. forum had one which was straight through, no baffles. You could drill it & fit one of Mr H's removable baffles in the end.
I do know others have used the same one that I have with no problems. I didn't leave mine on for very long so maybe didn't give the ECU time to adjust.
It's a loose fit on the downpipe so needs shimming. You can bolt the front bracket from the stock silencer to it (but only using one bolt) and it'll fit onto the original rear mounting. There is also an odd bracket at the front - don't bolt this to the footpeg mounting - it'll vibrate your brains loose! It serves no real purpose so I removed it.

If you want to have a go at it, mine's available for twenty quid including p&p. I doubt it's done fifty miles.
