Right, after much procrastination I have finally decided to modify the rear brake on the mighty Bullet as per the advice posted on this site.

Because of a knackered right knee which restricts what I can do I'm getting help from my son in law so, are there any pitfalls I should be aware of before I start>

Cheers

The 500efi Norm 2012 reg. We hit the first snag today when we discovered the the QD wheel isn't (or wouldn't) so we had to drop the wheel and brake drum together.

Even with the wheel off it wouldn't come apart despite much swearing. The weather was turning against us so we couldn't pursue this so proceeded with the mod.

Sure enough, the boss wouldn't slide on the backplate so we removed the star washers and replaced them with plain and tightened up until we

could just move the boss with finger pressure. Lubed everything up with brake grease and bunged it all back together just as the rain started.
I did manage to get a brief test run in but I didn't see much in the way of improvement. Certainly it was impossible to lock the wheel as per the vid.

Hi guys------------ JIM, give the shoes a time to fully bed-in as per their new set-up....You might want to consider better linings as well ??...........my own mod never locked the rears either, but then you don't want any brake system to lock its wheels, because after that point it no longer is a "braking" system...the tyres are.

I take your point Alan but I wasn't looking for a system that locked the rear wheel but, rather, using that as a comparison with the video.

The joy of a rear wheel lockup (particularly on wet roads) is not unknown to me and not something I'd like to repeat. :-)

I should have said that I hadn't considered the possibility of the linings having to bed in again, I'll try to be a little patient and wait and see.
