Subject: upgrade to power box on a sixty five
Ok you guys I know Ian has had a go at this one, a short while ago, but my question is to those who have fitter a power box to same bike, is what is the wire connections when fitting a power box? from the wire harness there are 2x purple, 1 red & 1 black wire. And from power box there are 2x yellow, 1 red & 1 black wire. I know is simple to fit wire connections to the wires but which colour goes to which?
Cheers Paul/guru

sorry I don,t own a 65 , BUT is this not the bike that has a seperate AC headlamp?
if so there are effectivly 2 seperate altenators , purple and"x" feed the lights via a seperate AC regulator and purple and "y" go to the reg/rect to charge the battery
I.m sorry I dont know the combination,

red / black are the feeds to the dc circit
red/black to the two yellow wires

I would say from power box red goes to battery +ve or ammeter, black to earth and the yellows are the alternator wires or purple. Black to black, red to red and yellows to purple. Best await someone elses confirmation though!

tech notes show that 2 x purple feed the ac lighting , and red/black go to the DC reg/rect
as pointed out in my post above

Sorry Alan, but its a four wire stator, if the two purples feed the AC light then what does the orange and yellow do?
Frank is right but all wires must be checked to ensure they go as per diagram and not been "modified" by someone.... gwilly

seems there are many veriants of the altenator (different suppliers) hichcocks PDF says red/black , however both you and norm (further down the page) say orange/yellow.
if we accept that purple/purple feed the AC (easy to check) , then the other two feed the dc and go to the reg rect (easy to check).

The way I read Guru's post was that these are the colours of the wiring going into the existing reg/ rect which he wishes to change. If he is looking instead at the alternator end of the wiring then yes may well be different.

All the ones I have seen yellow/orange feed the headlight, 2 purples feed the battery and you will see the 2 purple wires go to the existing re/reg

The job is that am doing away with the standard regulator/rectifier and swoping them both for a power box (so far so good) The plan is to use the existing 4 wires from the harnes which terminates as a white plastic connecting plug then connects onto the reg/rec plug under the seat.
The four wires comming from the harness (under the seat which at the minute still has the white connector plug on). Cut off the plastic block and use the same four wires (2 purple, 1 red 1 black) to connect up the power box (which has 2 yellow, 1 red, 1 black wires comming from it)
which colours goes to which? oh am only working under the seat.
Cheers guys

Then it is as per my original reply. Black to black, red to red and the 2 yellows to the 2 purples.
