How do I remove a steering race...

...from the headlight cowl of a crusader?
Just to add a potential difficulty, It was still attached when it was powder coated.

Tricky. I normally heat them locally then drift out. Why do you want to remove it, if it's reasonably sound, why not just clean it in position? REgards, Mark

Well it was powder coated, I've rubbed it down, but I don't know what would be acceptable.
I was under the impression that it would potentially cause issues if it wasn't perfect.

I've got to say, that race looks ok to me but the pics are in Blurryvision (TM) ! If there are no obvious tracks or dimples I'd use it and see what it's like when assembled.

That race looks like it has been sand blasted hence my comment. However I could be wrong but without actually seeing the article I would be loathe to change my opinion.
