Anyone know how tho remove the outer race, washer and bush assy from the timing side.Warming it up isn't a problem, however, getting at it to tap it out is. Looks like the only place is on the edge of the washer behind the bush. Which side should the bush exit? Do I drive it in towards the bearing, or towards the timing pinion? Lastly, is there a conversion for this bearing so the rollers don't run directly on the crank surface?

Just had a look and I'd say bush out first, working from the inside using a suitable diameter socket as a drift, then outer race working from the outside, may come out with heat alone (this worked for me on a later bullet engine,) but if not gentle force on the thrust washer. By the way, you can just turn the washer over if it is scored, no need to buy a new one. You can fit a conventional bearing in this location but the only suitable one is a Metric size and requires the t/s shaft grinding to suit. It's also not really worth it unless you're going racing! It also requires VERY accurate flywheel assembly... REgards, Mark

Cheers Mark, Yes I was a bit worried about the washer.looks like its going to be roller on crank again.I've also found an oilseal (Inside Diameter:22.10mm = 0.870 inch,Outside Diameter:31.75mm = 1.250 inch,Width:4.57mm = 0.180 inch), which I'm thinking about putting behind the timing pinion, by machining away part of the bush/case - as an anti-wetsumping measure. Any reason why not? and what about the drive side, mine just goes bearing - hole at the moment....

Zippy, I'd just politely suggest trying not to over-engineer these simple engines! It is possible to fit an oilseal on the t/s but if the bush is a good fit it's not really necessary and a lot of work. The roller on shaft design may look crude but actually works well; you may not be aware but the individual rollers are available in ? thou (can't remember the increment) oversizes for really accurate selective assembly, they are not listed in the parts books, you'll need to talk to our Hosts. The drive side should have a composition oil seal in the "sandwich" next to the primary case, they can harden and break up and disappear with time. You could fit a modern neoprene seal here if you wished, I've done it before but again, no real advantage as no oil seems to find it's way into the primary anyway. Did you read the article?
