Not utilized in Enfield sumps,
else obviously would have used
our good hosts, but am grateful
if anyone knows of a UK source
for those compact supplementary
oil filters that have a screw-on
filter about 3" diameter, and 2"
deep that one forever sees on
vintage seperate oil tank bikes
featured in UK magazines. Need
it for a BSA 500MX. April 2013
'Real Classic' shows exactly one
on page 47 fitted to a BSA B34
off road 'bike. The only ones
available out here are for early
Ford V8s, the filter is bigger
than a 500cc barrel! Either the
trade name, or trade designation
so I can perhaps hunt it down on
eBay UK if nobody can suggest a
bike accesserory place over there
that ships them overseas

Hi Gordon. How about one for a Norton Commando? You would have to rig-up the 'plumbing' but the whole assembly is quite compact. You can find them on the world's favourite auction site! Allan.

Try Paul Goff, http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffyoil.htm this is a remote filter widely used by other lesser marques not fitted with a glorious item like Enfields!

I am still amazed that no one including out host on this site has not sourced a better paper type filter for the Enfields, or have they?.

Dennis, you detected my irony thank goodness! I have here 2 filters bought from our Hosts which will be going back shortly as the cotton (?) cloth covering is peeling away in shreds out of the wrapper. No way I'm putting that in an engine. Fortunately I had in stock another much better one for the Interceptor oil change.

the actual cartrigdes off eBay
assuming 'twas the whole thing.
Way, way back in one's Velocette
days,innovative club members out
here would adapt some screw-on
unit so the issue of additional
filterage has been a concern for
a long time. Dennis is right re.
the antiqued cotton filters, but
the approx 1" dia. is insufficent
for paper. Some porous brass but
maybe that is too restrictive.

Interesting discussion going on regarding filters, I have just been discussing this with Tim Busby on a Super Meteor he is building and his idea is to bring the oil return pipe out through the top of the oil tank through a filter and return it on the opposite side of the tank. This he hopes will also reduce air bubbles in the oil by slowing it down and returning it to the other corner of the tank opposite the timing chest return. This is filtering return oil not feed oil but every bit has to help. Any thoughts on this idea?

Stiff copper pipes protruding
from the filler like someone
on life support. Would be
nice if brass unions could be
utilized discretly from the
side of the filler so that
the pipes are tucked neatly
