You're going to get a lot of conflicting advice asking questions like that
My opinion is a decent 20/50 mineral oil and change it regularly.

Yes indeed 20/50 seems right for this old design motor, have been running the halfords classic oil for the last three years..

Green colour, looks and smells like the old Duckhams, still change every year before winter layup regardless of mileage...

And now can we have our next contender/contestant please....... gwilly

Hi Reds, I put a decent 20/50 in the engine, clutch and gearbox in my Bullets and have had no problems as a result. Cheers, Paul.

I use Castrol Edge 25/50; since using this, the Bullet doesn`t guzzle oil like it used to.

You're right Pete!
What a relief no one suggested a sae40 monograde!

In the interests of spicing up the thread a little.
May I recommend Tesco value vegetable oil, found in the cooking section, unless you're running for performance, in which case extra virgin olive oil, not the stuff with chili pepper seeds though, they tend to block the oilways, :)
(Disclaimer, vegetable oil has no benefit to the running of the bike but does give you a healthy craving for fish and chips)
