Morning,

The Crusader is running pretty well, other than the carb being worn. Got a question though. How much oil should be in the primary drive case? I shone a torch down, and I could see the chain, should it be covered or is it pretty minimal?

The primary drive case is also the timing case so is lubricated by the normal flow of engine oil, so not adjustable. If your oil is circulating normally, it's fine so don't worry about it. Just get out and ride while you can!

As Mark says, it is fed with the same oil as the engine and is not adjustable, but also as Steve says it's best to start with some in there in the event of draining it off for service work ETC.

Well, I found out what happens if you over fill it-the bastard clutch slips and you can't start it! After ten minutes I gave up and took the BMW today.

If the clutch is slipping you are most likely using an oil which is not suitable.

I'm using Putoline formula V twin 20/50, BMW, bantam and KH250 seem happy on it. Now the level has dropped again its fine.
