tuning my 350. has the micarb 24. using the recommendations in the catalogue for a starting point. when it says to put the needle on position 2, does it mean two notches down from the top of two notches up from the bottom? currently I have it on the third notch down from the top. I'm at 5000 foot elevation. the bike has K&M filter and shorty silencer. currently using 25 and 97.5 jets - seems to run a bit rich. any pointers would be appreciated

Count down from the top, that being number one.

Hi guys------ Yes, as per LEON (Hi matey !) for the needle numbering...It's surprising just how many guys on here over the years haven't known that bit of info... DEAN---- don't forget that as you go higher so the air becomes rarer (ie less Oxygen) so your carb. mixture ratio will indeed start to richen-up... As you rightly point out, our hosts jet suggestions are the basic starting point and, I would imagine, were calculated here at Chadwick End----- a place NOT known for it's elevation..As usual I'm going to say that THE most important part of your carburetion is the plug read-out after doing a PROPER plug-chop test...I would say you have 2 choices ie}----1) Move house to a lower place !! ( Only joking there, DEAN) OR ---- 2) Drop the jets by 5%....and see how it goes...

Thanks guys. Is each notch 1 0r .5? the manual mentions a 2.5 setting.

Hi DEAN-------The notches are not calibrated for volume as such, because the needle jet that the needle itself moves within, can be of different sizes... I suspect that is the Indian way of saying "Position 2 out of 5" ....

last dumb question on this thread. does the highest notch count as notch number one, or is it zero? so if I go two notches down (counting two)is that actually two or one?

Dean, Five notches numbered one at the top.. five at the bottom (lowest)

1= leanest

5= richest
