the kickstart problem solved

Just to give an update , the reason the inner gearbox casing would not separate from the gearbox was the main shaft bearing was seized onto the shaft therefor not allowing the casing to be removed for access to the kick start pawl , after grinding the bearing outer case very carefully I managed to get the ball bearings out of the bearing casing which then allowed the gearbox casing to be removed , I eventually managed then to remove the inner bearing race from the shaft and after a quick clean up ordered the parts required from our hosts , as soon as the parts arrive its back to work re assembling and hopefully back on the road , I suppose this is one of the joys of owning a bullet that is almost fifty years old.

Hi Norm thanks for the comments , reference the bearings I have ordered the original type plus some veedol grease from our hosts with the intention of putting the gear box back together in its original form in keeping with the age of the bullet (1965).

Whilst I applaud your feelings I have to agree with Normski. ..... When I prepared the Infamous Bullet for it's TransAtlantic trip of yesteryear i replaced all engine & wheel bearings, except for the gearbox, with modern European bearings shielded & semi-shielded as appropriate. ... Although I left the gearbox alone had I have bothered with re-bearing I would have used modern european items.

my last mail did not read as I intended, I meant to say that I have ordered the European type bearing from our hosts as opposed to the cheaper made in india bearings.
