Micarb leak

Hi guys’
After a couple of weeks of layup because of winter storms, I took my 1996 Classic 500cc out. The micarb started to spew fuel from the float chamber overflow. Tapped it to loosen a possible stuck float jet (it’s a brand new one but worked fine on the last trip 2 weeks ago), to no avail.
Dismantled carb, clean, nothing in float needle base, needle clean and undamaged, no water droplets, float free-moving, no fluids in float body, height set at 24mm from gasket, cleaned up the float spindle and sockets. OK for ~half an hour so the float chamber itself sealed, but it now leaks again – clearly an overflow, but why? Shall replace the old float needle and base. Any thoughts on what else might be wrong?
Cheers, ChrisD (from Cape Town)
