starting up gt for the 1st time have oil going to the filter and rockers, is there a way can you see oil returning back to main reservoir through the filer neck, if not how can I check that it is returning.

The oil returns to the filter chamber on Crusaders, not via the filler neck as on other Enfields. If you just release (that is, undo slightly,)the nut on top of the filter you should see returning oil weep out but don't take it right off or you'll get a real eyeful as it's under pressure!
