Clutch Stopped Working On Ride Out ..Classic Clutch Cable Stretch Then Snap Feel: But No That End is Ok
I am Flummoxed as I do Have a Clue whats Wrong (I Think) with the Clutch?
I started by Replacing With Improved Actuator Arm & New Cable ..BUT! They Do's Not seem Enough Movement Across The engine on The Clutch Rod..( You Can feel it move "12mm" with Finger But it will not Lift the springs?)
....................................................................................................
Q: Do's The Clutch Rod wear a Lot? (Mines Low Mileage?) Clutch rod is 286mm Long.
Q: I Can Mot Viz Find The Sleeve: Part 550051..Is The a Lose Fitting Or Part Of Something Fixed?
ANY HELP Welcome

Hello CRAIG---------- Oh dear me !! Firstly, the clutch operating system normally will last the life of the bike, given fair wear and tear that is............. You say you can't find the sleeve (550051) ?? If that's missing then the actuator system itself won't function properly, even with the 3 balls in place, rods at proper length etc....Maybe you mislaid it when fitting that improved actuator ?? Have a look at}---- PARTS BOOK ONLINE / 500CC INDIAN BULLETS / 2005 ELECTRA X / PAGE 24 / ITEM 3 to see how it fits in with the other parts...........Shame you can't be with us on Sunday... Put your leather jacket on...come in your car and park it up the road a bit ???

Hi Alan,
These clutch actuators are prone to failure and the older these gearboxes get the more we will see these failures. Craig where are you getting this 12mm of movement?

Craig, a missing clutch hub nut will do it every time, even if it only loosens by a couple of threads is enough to prevent gearchanges

Alan,
I was just reading an article by our Club Pres on a recent 7000k trip on his Carberry and he carries 2 spare actuators all the time and he gets to use them. Very bad underdesigned part

Hello Folk's Seems to be a Lot of CLUTCH & ELECTRA Woe's on Here at the Moment..But My Clutch is Now Cured...The Fault Was That The Nylock Main Nut that holds The Clutch On Part:55025 was Missing (Since the factory?) and After 8 years of Use By the Previous Owner and Me IT Moved..HO Well No Real Damage Fixed Now.
BUT: To Get The Long Clutch Cable Just right (AVL Electra) I Looped The Cable On The Bikes R/H Side And Re Inserted The Clutch Cable Handle Bar Adjuster Part:170281(WHY Was They Never One?) ...Just Test Rode to Night and all feels fine... "Jobs a Good Un"..Cheers all Craig
