Does anyone know what sort of mileage I could expect to get from the engine of my EFI without a major overhaul. I do quite a few long runs for pleasure and must admit I cruise on the open roads at about 60mph withe the odd burst of 70mph , so I would consider me to be a bit of a hard rider,
Would welcome your comments or criticism .

I guess the answer is both complex and based upon anumber of preconditions, for instance.....how often do you change the oils and any filters, what level of maintenance does your machine get and by whom, how many miles a day, week or year do you do? Then of course there is a fundamental piece of information that is required....what do you mean by a "major overhaul?" For comparison my Norton Model 50 has done 83000 miles since the engine was last stripped and rebuilt. I am, of course, absolutely anal about maintenance and oils etc. Come to MadMikes Gatherinmg next Sunday 2nd June and you can see the bike and we could discuss the matter in more detail.

The Infamous Enfield had an engine strip at approx 35000 miles as a precautionary measure prior to Bryan & Marie's Big Adventure MKII. Absolutely nothing amiss whatsoever. ... and this Bullet 500 is from the days (1992) when Enfield quality control was non existant. ... Whether the Effies will do the same I know not but someone here will :)

Should have added that I use cheapish oil & that and the filter are changed at around 2000 mile intervals. I do a complete change at the beginning of the year whether or not due so that I can ride anytime the weather is suitable.

Dunno yet Mike .... The Box needs a bit of TLC, gave it a bit of gallop yesterday to BSA Open Day @ Mkt Harborough. ... great fun overtaking trucks & poxy caravans :) ... The oil smears that have been evident fo quite some time became oil slicks ;) .. Might just wash it down & maybe replace a couple or three gaskets at a later date

Hi Mike,
Something I think about often, and would love to see what would happen, but it would be a very interesting experiment if you had bought one of these new Enfields and treated it in the manner you treat your other bikes and see what problems or lack of problems you encountered. Be interesting to see your reactions lol

hi titch ,i have just done a full engine strip on an efi the big end was completely shot at 15000 miles now bear this in mind this bike has been serviced regular oil & filters changed religously at 2500 mile intervals but heres the crunch its been hauling a watsonian squire sidecar since around 2500 miles the engine started to rattle about 2 month ago and i told the owner to let it develope as once the rattle appears you can,t stop it it did develope just after going to the stafford show although the rattle was not a full blown knock but i decided strip down was the only alternative on stripping the big end was found to be shot ,i would think a solo should last for about 20000 miles although there is trouble ahead the efi uses the same conrod and big end as the electra (my electra big end went at 15000 miles and was knocking like a shithouse door on a grimsby trawler on stripping the engine the play was very slight but still up the creek)i also notice that the sprag clutch employed in the efi is the same as the troublesome electra ,and as i,ve already reported the electrical connections to all them sensors are terrible ,so as a great pal of mine once said" SUCK IT & SEE" they may be good and bad i must say that ive only seen bad ,although the combo is back on the road and clocking up more mileage ,the other thing is don,t worry our hosts can supply uprated bigends i,ve fitted 2 in the last 6 months happy days paul

Thanks for your comments, I must say I had a 1965 speed twin, that did 36000 miles in two years and didn't give any problem at all, so if my EFI needs major attention before that I will be disappointed.
No one has commented on the speeds I ride my bike at. so hope I am not pushing it too hard. Titch

hi titch ,i think the speeds you are riding at are acceptable and a good 500 should do 60 +and more my tuned electra will hit 80+ but i usually ride around 55/60 conserving fuel although run at around 50mph it returns around 80mpg enjoy the bike don,t worry about what could happen until you need to happy days paul.
