I have spent a long time sorting my electra x, rebuilding it to replace a 'stuck' tappet and replace a siezed piston. It stsrts well, ticks over beautifully, drives away nicely but as soon as the revs build it falters/chokes. Any ideas?

Graham,
Try a new spark plug, I know it sounds stupid but it happens to me every so often on my crossbred motor, exactly as you say, start first kick, idle perfectly but won't accelerate

Hi Mate - In top gear at what speed does it 'falter/choke'?

Norm, I will try the new plug. Riggers, didn't get to top gear it was just accelerating up the gears - I would say half throttle and it begins to falter. Thank you.

Graham,
Hope the plug fixes it because then you might be able to help with mine. It is the most unlike plug failure I have ever seen. Every indication makes you believe fuel, the misfiring, coughing, backfiring as soon as you put it under load and as you say in mid range of the throttle, climbing a rise really causes problems. It took me about 5 breakdowns over a period of a couple of days before I stopped immediately thinking fuel and after that as soon as it started to miss, put in a new plug and I was good for another 150ks or thereabouts. Bizare behaviour and I'm not sure if it is something to do with Electra electrics

Hi Graham - if the new plug doesn't sort it I reckon it sounds like carb trouble. I would run it for as long as you can whilst it's 'spluttering and choking' and then cut the engine with the kill switch and check the colour of the plug.
Sounds to me like either the needle jet or the main jet need attention - or both.
Cheers mate.
