installing the boyer electronic ignition. the instrctions seem straightforward, but I don't see how it will lead to proper timing, after all you are just "eyeballing" the position of the stator plate. should I just be using this a a starting point and then fine tuning the timing by ear?

dean , by default the boyer runs at full advance , only retarding at low revs , the instructions show you how to set it for its full advance, have you read the instructions that are shown at the left of the page technical notes/electrics , boyer this shows you how to set the timing in real life

I agree , our hosts intructions are for real life and by their long experience they give us the possition on full retard ( static ), I painted my magnets so I could observe the leading edge at the moment it triggers from the 2 steel pins on the plate ( I even take up the slack on the pinion gears ), my ignition is bang on for kick starting as any more advance will give a mighty kick back putting the oil pump spindle in great danger of stripping , from this terrible pain in my foot I found that one must follow the intructions to the letter .The TDC tool is a great back up checker so one knows how many mm before TDC the piston is .
