All you Electra X riders out there, how do you put up with the gearbox or is it just mine. Changing up is perfect, changing down 5th to 4th is fine, 4th to 3rd is fine, 3rd to 2nd can be difficult, either a false neutral or just resists changing sometimes. A second attempt and it usually works. I'm told that they can improve with more mileage so is the best yet to come (I've clocked up 5000 miles) I find the clutch adjustment very sensitive and often needs a slight tweak. After all I've just said the Electra X is a fine bike, and a nice bike to ride, if only the gearbox could have been made better

dennis, 5 speed box is pretty good and 90% of gearbox changing issues are clutch related

Clutch drag seemed to be a problem with mine. It might be worth stripping it down and checking for warped plates. I found a couple after a similar mileage but they are cheap enough to replace. It made the gear change much slicker. I've also gone back to 15/40 primary oil after trying ATF. I found ATF too sticky and there is less drag especially when cold with the oil.

hi dennis,i find my electra 5 speed box no worse than the right hand change 4 speed try blipping the throttle when changing down ,i,ve put a new clutch in mine and it works better with 15/40 than it did with atf as frank has mentioned ,careful setting up has got it near perfect atb paul.
