just finished complete engine and gearbox rebuild on my 2002 350. Ready to fire it up, but want to make sure I am truely ready. When putting the timing case on I primed the pump and filled the oil filter with oil. Do I need to prime the top end, or will it be OK until the oil gets pumped up there? Otherwise I guess it's just a matter of crossing my fingers and go!

Hello DEAN--------- as a good Engineer you will have lubricated all items as you assembled ?? and primed all galleries, pipes etc ??.........OK, at this stage slacken the two big Banjo bolts on the rocker pipe delivery, de-compress and crank the engine over until oi is seen to weep out of BOTH of them... Tighten up, continue cranking until oil is seen to ooze out of both rocker assemblies... Rocker covers on and you're good to go...Oh yes, check the ign. switch works in the OFF position... just it case !!............. ..................Let the engine idle over for a few mins until any smoke has dissipated..........Listen for any squeaks, rattles or deep rumbling .....Best of luck to you..

----------- ah!! you got in there PDQ !-------That's for upper cylinder lubrication...Depends on what piston and ring clearances you have..Personally I don't see the need on a Std. road bike but I DID use a small amount of R40 oil in my grass track bikes.. They ran on straight Methanol (or, if I could get away with it, a Methanol/Nitro mix-- but don't tell the stewards !!)

Alan, new 8:1 compression piston from host along with the upgraded valve set up.
Your help has been appreciated.

Putting a couple of hundred mills of oil in through the tappet door helps fill the timing case and allows the timing gears timing gears to be running in oil from the get go.
