I got the 1965 Mk1 Interceptor properly on the road last year, and am just doing the first big service (oil, filter etc,) at 700 miles. A bit late but it's been fun to ride! Anyway, I've had an ongoing problem with it not idling properly, spitting back through one carb and hicoughing at low throttle openings. I've had the carb apart, done all the usual but no change. It occurred to me to swap the plugs over and see what happens- problem moves to other side, aha! Looked for a spare pair of plugs to replace the Denso Iridiums I'd been told would be ok. Found a pair of new Champion N5s (don't normally rate Champions,) and problem solved! Re-adjusted carbs and idles beautifully and off idle stutter gone. Great! Also reversed the front brake shoes (originals with not much wear on,) and the judder under braking is also gone. And a lovely day for a ride! Looking forward to the Interceptor Rally now!

Good to hear your Inter is running well Mark. I have Pazon ignition on mine and I though irridum plugs would work well in it. No joy at all, ended up pushing it home, put the original plugs back in and been that way for a couple of years now. The old saying if it works, don't mess with it.Wish I could get to the rally.

Hi Mark,
Not really Interceptor stuff but I have a Super Meteor arriving here in the next day or so, hasn't been run since 1988 it is a bit rough so anything is possible. We are getting a good selection of twins in the Club here in Melb now. 54 Meteor 700, 2 x 56 Super Meteors,57 Super Meteor 59 Connie,65 Inter, 67 Inter,70 Inter and a 72 Inter. The 72 Inter has had $20,000 spent on it over the last couple of years and is very close to getting started, and once I get the latest 56 Super Meteor running it means all of the Big Twins here are up and running

Norm, that's a nice selection of Twins, but 72 Inter? Is that a Rickman or Clymer? Our REOC branch is mainly singles although a good selection of them including a 1938 500 Bullet (Model J) outfit and a WD/CO, even a (proper) Woodsman but modern Indians do tend to dominate. Not that there's anything wrong with that but they are boringly reliable, which limits banter on Club nights! I've a few more snagging jobs to do on the Mk1 but it will get proper use this year having been trailered to the last Inter Rally as it was only just finished. I did ride my Meteor to that event though! And steady progress is being made on the Series 2 Interceptor as well.

Mark,
Phil Dolan has a Rickman but as he isn't a club member I didn't include it. Phil also knows where the Clymer kickingaround here is. The 72 Inter has always confused me and apparently Mr H. Steve bought it in 1972, it was about 6 months old at the time. Not sure how it fits in but apparently there was a handfull of them and there is a special manual supplement for them. Steve is adamant it came with clipons and a fibreglass tank
