Ignintion lock plate removal

Hi all, has any of you guys ever removed the crome ignition lock plate in the casquette? I want to relocate my ignition lock to a more dry position, and install a tachometer in the empty spot. Since I can't help ride down the engine mod road, I figured a tachometer could come in handy monitoring the engine speed. I don't want to ruin my engine just because I can't keep my hands of the modding busines. I bought a MMB 48 mm tachometer (same size as ampmeter), but can't get the crome plate loose. Hello again, JACOB ---------- it's a press-fit into the casquette within a thin, rubber shroud...( Same as the Ammeter).. Over time they tend to "grow" into each other and become quite hard to move...I've used a combination of gentle leverage PLUS a flooding of a thin penetrating oil spray (eg WD40, etc) to help break this bond..It's a devil of a job to start it going, but once under way it almost falls out...

Hi again Alan R, when I started to look into this thing, it looked as just a very tight fit. The rubber thing was not noticeable, but it makes sense, it is the stuff that bonds everything together. I will start working on the matter. Thanks for the advice. Jacob

Hi guys---- JTL,Have a look at the "Parts Book Online" in the left hand side of this page, select Bullet-4 speed---------- follow the prompts until you reach p41 and look at item 24----

Where did you find the tachometer ? I had a go at this a while back, but had real problems finding one that worked with a single cylinder.

Gwilly, it is actually the one I'm waiting for. Bought it a week ago, supposed to arrive in a couple of days. Pete (staff), the tacho is adjustable. When ordering you are asked what bike you intend the tacho for. I presume they will pre set it for you from this information. Some time ago I came across some pics on an american Bullet forum. The same tacho mounted at the ignition lock position. The hole in the casquette is slightly smaller, so some filing needs to be done. Should be a piece of cake. Finding a proper location for the ignition lock might be a bigger challenge. all the best. Jacob
