Trailblazer gas tank mount

I completed the restoration of a 1958 Indian Trailblazer in December. It runs great and I was able to put about 30 miles on it before the weather turned cold here in Wisconsin.
The last trip was to Janesville where I filled it up with high test, ethanol free gas for winter storage. The bike ran great on the way over, but when I started it to return home it sounded like the rods were knocking and the bottom end was ready to fall out. The increased weight of a full tank was causing the gas tank to vibrate against the frame. What an uneasy ride home that was.
The tank mount is like the '58 Constellation with a bolt (or stud) at the front and the frame clip at the rear of the tank. I have purchase the rubber sleeve for the tank clip but I don't know how to position it. The bike was in pieces when I bought it. I would appreciate anyone's help who is familiar with this.
