plumbers nightmare

i was tinkering with a 250 virago yesterday ,i,ve never seen as many pipes going to a fuel tap etc then carb ,the pilot jet had got clogged with nasty varnish and the float needle was stuck solid in the closed position,it had been stood since october,after a bit of fetteling it was up & running ,margaret is now a happy bunny (not thatcher) atb paul.

Sounds like the tap works with a diaphragm valve operated by vacuum from the carb manifold.It`s a safety issue.I would suggest an inline filter.Also there`s no such thing as varnish or fuel going off on this forum.L.O.L.

For what its worth, you can 'modify' the tap so it acts like a normal one but the lady rider must remember to turn the fuel off every time or risk a sump full - not that there is enough fuel in the tank of a Virago to fill the sump, but you know what I mean!
