1949 Bullet petrol tank

Hello everyone, I was just wondering if any of you can tell me if petrol tank for the 350cc Model G from the late 1940's had two hand pump mounting lugs underneath? I have an original petrol tank that I thought may have been from a Norton as it was chromed, red and black lining on it and matt grey inside the lined panels. However the lining looks hand done, as if someone has added it to look like a Norton. It came with other Royal Enfield pieces and I now believe it is possibly from a 350cc Model G from the 1940's. I can tell you that the tank is approx 19" in length, 12" wide and the fixing holes underneath nearest the front are approx 3 3/4" centre to centre, the ones nearer the back are 4 1/4" approx centre to centre. Push and turn petrol cap to the left hand side when looking down onto it.

Would any of you be able to confirm this or possibly have a link to a photo of one. I feel the hand pump lugs underneath would indicate a pre 1950 tank, but may be wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
R-H

HR, the early Bullet and G tanks did have the pump under the tank. Have a look in the Parts Book Online (350 rigid) section for an illustration which shows the shape of the tank lining. All these tanks seem to have had two petrol outlets joined on a y-branched pipe. Does yours have this?

Hello Mark thanks for getting back to me, I'll definitely have a look at the parts books online. I can also confirm that the tank does have two petrol outlets. I have also managed to take and upload some photos finally and have now uploaded them onto Tiny URL, so hope they work.

It does look like an Enfield tank, and may even be pre-war. It looks like the one on my pal Chris' 1938 Model J (pre war 500 Bullet.) The tank lining does look a bit odd though, it may be a bit of PO (previous owner) customisation!

Thanks very much Mark for your quick reply and information shared. Regarding the customisation, it has been hand done by the looks of it in places with the black and red lining.

Very interesting to know that the tank may actually be pre-war, it has survived well then!

Thanks very much for your help and assistance on this.

Cheers,
Roger
