Three questions in one:
Anyone had the 18t sprocket fitted? Was it worth it or not. Could you use the same chain as with the 17t.
Cheers

Trev, as I understand it from the Hitchcocks catalogue, the Electra EFI (with 19 inch wheels) has a 17 tooth spocket and the classic EFI (with 18 inch wheels) has an 18 tooth sprocket, so I assume your bike is an Electra EFI. I've just bought a B5 EFI model which also has a 17 tooth sprocket, and although I'm still riding slowly to run it in, I'm already getting the impression that 17 teeth will not be enough, so I'll be interested to hear what others think.

Hi Trev - Mine's a 2001 Classic 500 which came with a 17 tooth sproket. Firstly I swopped it for an 18 tooth which it managed to pull without too much trouble but the wide ratio gearbox made changing down to third on hills a real pain.
I've now de-restricted the engine (free flowing air filter and exhaust) and fitted the close ratio gear convertion (you don't need to bother about this!), and at the same time upped the gearbox sprocket to 19 teeth. The bike pulls this with ease and gives a top end speed of around 80mph. And with the close ratio box I can now drop down to third if I need to on, say. a steep hill.

Hi Trevor,
I know nothing about them but depending on the model you have, the sprocke size is limited if the bike has a kick starter. I can see if I can find the info if you are interested

I forgot to say that (in my case) the original chain fitted fine.

Just to clarify, mine is a Bullet 500 EFI, 19 in wheels, so similar to Electra, but this is the 500 standard. Electric and footstart, my dealer says it has 17t. Rog - I think mine is also a B5, but handbook and CofC does not use this designation.

Hello Riggers --------- just for the record, what carb are you using ?? I'm about to fit our hosts Amal 32mm kit to my 2006 Classic 500 Bullet, so shall I go direct for the 19T output sprocket then, as I already have the free-flowing items ready to fit ??. The 4-speed g'box internal upgrade is programmed for this Summer ( Wot's one of them, ??)
