Got the old cam bushes out of the Mk2 cases, the exhaust is easy as it is open to the outside where the revcounter drive mounts, but the inlet is a pig as it is blind. My blind bearing removal tool wouldn't touch it so I had to cut through it with a rotary burr and collapse it. Fit new bearings tomorrow, hopefully! And refit the Connie swinging arm! REgards, Mark

Hi Mark .I have heard that the S11 are prone for early Cam bush wear any reason why ?I have read that filling the chamber with oil and driving a close fitting shaft in can bring them out did you try this before cutting them ? Will you have to in-line reamer them ?

Duffel, I don't know about "premature" wear on S2s, I haven't heard of this before. What would be premature anyway? This is my first S2 so I'm open to new suggestions! The bush design and size on the S2 is dimensionaly the same as the earlier Twins and I haven't had problems with these. It's possible that bush wear might be misdiagnosed when the cam end float has been set too loose resulting in noisy valve gear. As to removal, I've heard the close fitting shaft thing too but that would mean making a mandrel (I don't think the cam itself would do it?) and applying a lot of "blunt force trauma" to the blind end of the cam housing, risky in my opinion! You'd also need a space behind the bush which in my case was driven completely home. The bush wall is thin so once sufficiently weakened it collapses fairly easily. I'll let you know how re-fitting goes... REgards, Mark

Hi Mark, I sympathise with your task - last year I had to grind & cut out 6 steel metalastk rear hub bushes on my Ducati Monster, as the inner sleeves had separated from the rubber.

Martin, I've had to do that on a Honda rear wheel once, rotten job! Thank goodness Royal Enfield as inventor and Patentee of the rubber in wheel cush drive didn't saddle us with such a grotty arrangement. (Unfortunately later 250s and Interceptors have Metalastik bushes in the swing arm but at least they can easily be removed and burned out!) The Inter bush wasn't too hard to remove but knowing that the cases are effectively unobtainable makes me nervous about damaging things... REgards, Mark
