Any help would be appreciated.
Firstly I'm rubbish with elec-trickery!
I'm pretty sure it's shorting out somewhere
I've checked all the wires I can see nothing looks
Rubbed or worn.
I've have heated gloves wired in for a few weeks now and nothing went wrong,
However I've recently installed an Oxford charging thingy to keep the battery at tip top condition,
thanks for looking.

Foz,
You have to start testing, does it blow when you turn the ignition on and move the handelbars back and forth. Then put your foot on the brake and shake/bounce the back end of the bike. Them use the front brake and bounce the forks and move the handelbars around. Each time you do any of these tests make sure the fuse is still ok. Then turn the parkers on and bounce/shake the front and the rear of the bike. Check fuse again. Then try the horn, bounce the front and pull on the wires around the switch. if fuse is still good start the bike and try the headlight, high/low move the handelbars back and forth and also pull on the wires inside the headlight and around the switch. By now you should have blown a fuse either in your head or the bike

Foz , I thought I had better regester (finally) in order to try and answer your posting ,

there will probably be a short on a componant , or the wiring going to the componant , the easiest way of trying to locate the problem , is not by going thru 500 fuses in the hope you catch the item as it blows the fuse,

remove the fuse and wire a bulb (try a indicator bulb /21w) between the fuse connections , as currant flows to earth it will light the bulb instead of blowing a fuze,

go about your bike checking for frayed wires or corroded bulb holders etc , untill the bulb extingishes , when the bulb goes out , the leakage to earth has stopped

a 21w bulb is what I use in the automobile trade , you may have toexperiment with a lower wattage IF we are talking a low value fuse

It an electra 2010, I've done the bouncy thing and the handle bar turning the fuse was fine,
I've also hade the head light out and the tail light, I happen. This morning before work I went straight to the fuses and one was gone so grabbed the spare (it was 20a) it then started fine I put the cover back on then as I jumped on put the lights on then put in first it stopped I didn't have time to faff about so I jumped in the car instead, so came home checked all the wires I could see and remove the lights to check them out, I've gone through about 5 fuse' now I'm think about going to a garage but it's bit of a walk but I'll wait because I've got the weekend to tinker. The bulb idea sounds like a plan

You say it was fine until you "installed an Oxford charging thingy" ............. Thereby may lie your problem ........ remove or disconnect it .......... does the problem now go away?

Hello ALAN (LANCS)------ I'm from the same background (Royal Mail Transport Workshops) and had a stop/tail bulb in a holder with a couple of feet of wire and some crocodile clips attached stuffed in the cow gown pocket...Quite right matey, best way indeed..... Going by the "Starting-up" description and the type of bike involved I'm thinking towards the prop stand switch ?---- but, as it's only a 2010 model then maybe the warranty might still be in play ??

Another thing you can check that can cause this is the wires to the pilot lights shorting out, disconect them inside the headlight and see how that goes. Yes Alan F1's on in Melb not too far from me but we are busy this weekend as usual Fair go Ride Sat and more Chang repairs Sun

Alan heat has gone thankfully, last couple of days mid 20's, at least that stops the sweat dripping in your eyes and fogging up your glasses while you are trying to adjust tappets
