Did anybone catch Jeremy Paxmans programme on the British Empire last night. He visited India and after expaining the cotton war, independance and Gandhi, he arranged a meeting with the Royal Riding Club. They rounded up about 50 Bullets, they let him have a solo ride round a large field.

His final remark was something like Royal Enfield, the last remaining British icon in India. Look out for the repeats.

Cheers all

Yep! I saw it too. He got the Royal Enfield motto wrong though - he said 'Made like a rifle, goes like a bullet', when in fact it was 'Made like a gun, goes like a bullet'. Near enough I suppose!

"Makes a noise like a gun, goes like a snail"

I missed the Paxman program but A while ago the Hairy Bikers used Bullets to tour India. I recall they had a few breakdowns (the bikes, not the bikers!)

Yes saw this..... "Last remaining British icons in India" sorry but did'nt the first Land Rover come off Tata's production line in Puna ( India ) last year !!! And the programme was about the Empire.. which in India ended in 1947 and the RE as we know and love, was first introduced in Uk during 1949.. !!

Hi guys ---- just seen it on I-player -----What a great bunch of lads !! I wish our club rides would fetch 30 or so out on their bikes.  Hemant--- next time you pop back to see the guys I want to come too, OK !! Is my licence any good over there ??  I reckon that quietly (if that's possible with a Bullet ) Enfield could out-do the likes of Harley Davidson "Hogs", Honda Wings "Trefen's" etc on a world scale --- an International Bullet "Bash" for in stance based just outside Chennai.------ YEEAAAHHHH -------------BORN TO BE WILD !! -----YIPPEEEEE---------------- YEEEEE  HAAARRRRR------CLIK-----damm, there's that arthritus again. Mam, where's me ointment ??

Like Alan I watched it on I Player last night and really enjoyed it. however, I think Paxman missed a trick by not commenting on the irony of the Indians now selling bullets to the British.

Alan R, It looks like a TVS with some usual Indian modifications, big light etc..

You are welcome to travel with me next time, your licence will be OK.

But you won't be able to drink alcohol on any of Indian railway.. it's an offence, with 3 months in jail !!
