Does anybody know what readings I should get testing a magneto coil I am getting .5 ohms through the coil and 3 ohms from the coil wires to the body of the coil. This is on a Flea coil Any thoughts?

The good oil from my genius mate is "It should ideally be between 5-6K ohms. They vary a bit. sometimes down to 4K. The DC resistance is proportional to the number of turns. More turns, more resistance therefore more output."

Hi Simon, I tried this on an Ensign a few months back and it seems to work, I used a 6 volt battery on the external coil to give it good spark to start, works brilliantly but it won't rev using the battery supply, have to flick it back to the magneto and all is good. This Flea I have set up with 12 volt LED's for ease of LED's and a better range of batteries to fit in the tool box out of sight. What I would like to try on this one is the same principle and use a tiny 12 volt coil from a Monkey bike fitted in under the tank but I'm not sure if I could use the existing magneto coil in the same way and combine the outputs so that I could switch from coil to magneto to get it to rev. Somehow in the magneto it is allowing the spark to advance and the only way I see it can is by the 2 pick up points each end of the magneto coil. Any thoughts?

Simon, I should have added how does a Victa 2 stroke motor mower advance it's timing because it has only one coil pick up point?

I'll ask my friend, I presume there is no mechanical advance and we are talking a WIPAC. Style flywheel mag?

Just another question regarding magneto coils, are they voltage specific 6 or 12 or are they just a coil that fires a spark of whatever voltage it happens to be?
