Fixing dents in carb float?

After ordering a used "long neck" 15/16" Amal 276 from Mr. H. and looking over the remains of worn 1-1/16" 276 I have in my garage, I am on my way to rebuild a complete, original carb for my Model G. The worn and too big carb that I have still have some useful parts, but some may need some work. Take the float, for instance: .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- The float is of the old brass type, it has no leaks, but is dented all around the top from (excessive?) use of the tickler. I.e. I think the tickler will not work properly as it will hardly touch the float. Does anyone know how to fix this? .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Obvoiusly I can't fill the dents with epoxy or solder, that increases the weight. How about heating it until the pressure inside pops the dents out? (... or more likely crack a soldered joint!) .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- I Wish the float was symmetrical, then I could just turn it upside down! .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Stupid question maybe, I know. I can just buy a new one at £24, but that's takes some of the fun out of fixing old things, and the carb is going to be expensive enough as it is. .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Regards, Anders F. R.

Dril a small hole in the middle of the dent , then using a piece of bent piano wire try to pull it out , the solder needed to cover the hole won't be enough to alter the wheight significantly...have fun!!!

I think boiling water might pop the dent out. Worth a try.

Hi Guys------- It's the same problem(but in minature)that you get with dents in your car wing/bodtwork ie the metal will have stretched ----- allbeit a small amount ---- and won't just go back to how it was before, all smooth and round, (steady-on now Mr.R !!).. Could you fabricate a longer plunger for the tickler instead ??---- Maybe incorporate a small dia. flat washer on the inner end for broader contact with the float as well ???............

Dont mess with the float you'll bugger it up. You say you dont think the tickler will reach the float but have you tried as the plunger is quite long but in any case you see quite a few used ones on e bay but have you asked Mr H, they are not expensive.
