Hello! .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- I just got Hitchcocks complete catoalogue in the mail yesterday, a really nice surprise! I have been drooling over it since i got it. Lots of "I-want-that!"-stuff..... I can e.g. get a brand new Amal 276 for my Model G, to replace the Concentrid put there by previous owner. .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- One question: Does it make any difference, really, if I remove the Concentric 626-300 that does a very adequate job except for beeing not original, and replace it with a brand new, rather expensive 276 identical to the one that sat on the bike from the factory? .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- I guess the only noticeable difference will be a hole in my wallet..... Anyone? .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Regards, Anders F. R.

Is the rest of the G original? Are you working towards making it so?
If not, I can't see the point myself.

Hi ANDERS------- ok, if you DID fit a 276 (is that a monobloc or pre- model ??) you could always sell the Mk1 and off-set some of the cost ??.. Plenty of buyers I would have thought....

Anders, the G would have had a special long neck body for the 276 originally. Sadly I don't think our Hosts do this variant as Amal don't make it as yet, presumably because of the low demand. Some other Manufacturers used it but not many. REgards, Mark

Thank you for your resonse! .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- It seems I have mixed up a little in my head here. Yes, I am aware og the long necked 276 for Model G. This is why there is a Concentric on it now I guess, as the long neck 276 was unavailable when prev. owner needed a carb. As the Concentric doesn't fit under the tank either there is a home made spacer and no space for the original air filter. Yes, new 276 is available (at £265), BUT not with the long neck as I thought when I wrote the first post here. My mistake! The long neck 276 i saw was a used carb body only in the "Used Parts & Bikes" section. So I can in fact get a 276 that will fit my G (if I buy this one for a start and collect the rest of the parts later), but not a new one. .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- PeteF: Yes, the rest of the bike is very near original. It is unrestored, but a few parts are replaced during normal maintenance. Most of them with original or repro parts from Mr. H. I installed an electronic regulator two years ago as the old Lucas regulator died. (It lasted 58 years, not bad after all!) Frankly I went for the easiest solution at the moment, even if not original and even if I know the original Lucas is available here (at £23,10) (but I must admit that the charging is indeed much better now!). Apart from that little piece of electronics, the Concentric, a conical air filter, a home made rear mudguard stay, a home made battery holder and sealed wheel bearings, I can't think of anything not original. .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Alan R: Is it really a market for used Mk1s? Anyway: I have a habit of putting parts like that aside. They may always come in handy later, if I get another G without a carb..... I already have a complete and refurbished engine on the shelf, and are looking for a reconditioned magneto or complete magdyno. .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Mark M: As mentioned, I may very well buy that long neck 276 body, as I realise that it may be hard to find one later. .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Regards, Anders F. R.

Took me ages to find the right carb for my old bullet but finally one turned up. Keep hunting and one will show up. Then you'll have to make it work properly and that is where the fun rally starts!

Anders, that carb in the Used Parts section looks pretty complete, the jet block for these early carbs is hard to find so I'd say along with the other fittings (used as they are,) it looks like good value. I have these carbs on 3 bikes including a long neck 289 on my 500 Bullet so I've had a fair bit of experience of them!

OK, then the used long neck 276 for Model G is on it's way to me very soon! .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- This one is a 15/16" carb. It crossed my mind that I have a very worn but almost complete 17/16" 276 which came with the bike but obviously is too big. Probably from a J (500 cm3). Anyway: Apart from the 2/16" differece in the bore, are the float bowl and other parts interchangeable between these two? .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- I also forgot to emphasize that my original question mainly was a technical one. Will it affect the performance if I remove the Concentric 626/300 and fit an correctly jetted, original 276 in stead? Will I gain anything or not, or maybe even loose some performance? .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- The bike seems qiute happy with the Concentric. It idles well, low and medium rev torque is good, fuel economy excellent etc. The only thing I am not completely satisfied with is that opening the throttle from 3/4 to full doesn't change anything but the noise. I have tried different needle positions and main jets, but not been able to improve this out. Maybe it is just the way a 350 is? .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Regards, Anders F. R.
