Can some advise me whether the single spring seat and seperate rear seat would fit on my 1960 crusader. Thanks. OB1

The answer is I think, maybe! Some Crusaders (the Clipper models mainly) were fitted with single seats as standard and the seat subframe has lugs at the front edge to take the saddle springs. If you haven't got this you'll have to fabricate something. I'm not sure how the front mount would fit as I've never seen this detail on a 250 Clipper and the standard 250 frame does not have a lug on the top tube like the Bullets (some of!) have. The rear pillion seat bolts through the mudguard and so will fit if you're prepared to drill holes!

Thanks Mark......maybe i should stick to the original dual seat to be true to the bike.

Without sounding too green, what is the clipper moel and whaty type of models are there for the crusader?

OB, there were Clipper models of both the Crusader and the 350 Bullet. They were intended as "budget" models and had a much more basic specification than the main range. This consisted, among other things, of more painted surfaces and less chrome, unpolished engine cases, non-adjustable rear suspension units, iron cylinder heads rather than alloy, smaller brakes at the front (6" rather than 7") and non-quickly detachable at the rear, smaller carb and lower compression and sometimes, single seat rather than dual seat. The 350 Clipper (Bullet) also had basic undamped forks. The Clippers have nearly all been uprated to higher spec over the years which is a shame (I think,) as the understated looks of the Clipper spec is quite attractive!
