A couple of 4 speed clutches that have driven me nuts for some years now are working very well, they had been sush a pita for so long but now I think they are finally a good working clutch so it can be done

Alan, Percy and I worked on these for quite some time with mixed results and now I have proven these mods to work there is a few otheres lined up needing fixing. Nothing worse than fearing getting stuck in traffic and knowing the more traffic the worse the clutch will get
John first step was a mod similar to Simons design to reduce the gearbox cover flex.Next was to grind the nipple off the gearbox bearing cap where the pushrod goes through. Next was to fit a clutch push pad to this end, the same as the other end in the clutch. This means you have to cut the push rod down. I welded a steering head bearing each end of the rod but either cutting and hardening the existing rod or making a new rod from silver steel would both work.I also bought some 6mm stainless rod but didn't end up trying it. Stainless work hardens so should do the job. Finally I ground 3 mm out of the clutch perch, set the adjuster in the box so it had freeplay, then adjusted the cable so that the lever had some freeplay and now the clutches work as they should. Sounds a lot but I could probably do it in less than an hour now.
